Every listing is reviewed by a human editor against U.S. Department of Labor RAPIDS records and the program sponsor's official website before it is published.
An apprenticeship is a structured 3- to 5-year training pathway that combines paid on-the-job hours (usually 2,000 hours per year) with classroom instruction (usually 144 hours per year). Apprentices typically begin earning 40–50% of the local journeyworker wage and reach 100% of scale at completion. Most programs are tuition-free; some require a small books-and-tools deposit. Wages, benefits, and the pace of pay raises vary by trade, by union vs. non-union local, and by state cost of living — which is why this site organizes information three ways: by trade, by state, and by topic (wages, certifications, licensing, ROI vs. college).
